Martians R Us

Mars One intends to establish a permanent human colony on Mars. By 2023 you could be one of the first Martians. Of course, this will only work if you happen to be an astronaut that doesn't mind the idea of being one of four living organisms on an entire planet. The good news is, Mars One intends to send up four more astronauts every two years. You've got time. You, intrepid explorer that you are, may have just found your calling in life: to be a Martian!

Doesn't it look so cozy?

You must prepare yourself thoroughly. I recommend beginning with the Mars One official website. I suggest you watch the video found by clicking the "Watch our Mars One introduction film" button. You'll see how Mars One has planned the mission in such a way as to make it possible.

Next I recommend watching this video. It will introduce you to Bas Lansdorp, the Dutch entrepreneur heading up the project. Apparently they need $6 billion to get the colony ready and to send up the first four astronauts. If every person alive on the planet donated $1 then the project would have the funding they needed. Unfortunately, a large number of the people alive on the planet today don't have food or shelter or clean water. Any dollars they have go toward making their own planet habitable. Never fear. Mars One already has several million dollars pledged for the project. They are optimistic about obtaining the rest. Perhaps, as a future Martian, you should do your part to support the cause by purchasing some of their merchandise. A nice hoodie or maybe one of their posters displayed prominently would help spread the word about the future Martian colony and the need for funds.

You can also prepare yourself by reading this helpful guidebook.
