Did you see that on Pinterest?

Yesterday I took a can that used to have tomatoes in it (I washed it thoroughly, twice), wrapped it in paper, and glued a couple of magnets to the back. It now holds my dry erase markers and sits on my whiteboard. This is a simple storage solution to a problem that has been plaguing me for years. Good, ol' Ma saw my solution and was very impressed. "Did you see that on Pinterest?"

No, mother, I did not.

There's no end to this question. When I put up a lattice on my wall and attached coat hooks to hang my purses and hats she asked the same thing: "Did you see that on Pinterest?"

No mother, I did not.

Then there was the time when I put up some shelves in a corner of my room that was pretty much just wasted space. Because the shelves are in a corner, there's a bracket on one end and some vine-carved, wood molding underneath the other end against the wall. And no, I didn't see something like it on Pinterest.

Pinterest has robbed me of any possible creativity credit. These days, if I manage to do something creative I must first have seen it on Pinterest. I suspect this is true for many people. Perhaps, with Pinterest, it is no longer necessary to be creative. You can simply find what you need with detailed instructions on how to do it.

But I ask you, where did the idea come from to begin with? Somebody, somewhere had to have thought it up first. Why not me?

  1. You're the person who creates the pinterest posts for other people to copy. Good job. (And I'd love to see the picture of those bookshelves.)

  2. I'm sure people are just amazed at your creativity! You are just cooler than people even realize!

  3. haha that is too funny :) I know what you mean though, because MOST of my ideas do NOT come from Pinterest... although everyone assumes that they have.
